Don’t Over-Complicate Christ

Don’t Over-Complicate Christ

Have you ever sought to understand what it means to be a Christian and it felt like you were trying to read a treasure map without a key?  So maybe you reached out to somebody that you know is a Christian and they threw terms out to you that you’d never heard like “salvation” or “become saved” and you just became more confused.  Or maybe you decided to check out church yourself (logical decision, right?) and all you ever heard the preacher preach about was that we need to do this and be that and “get right” and you walked away feeling like this Christianity thing is a lot of work that you didn’t really even know how to do but you better figure out so God would love you.

Or perhaps you’ve been “saved” for some time now and you want to get closer to God so you went to someone who came to faith before you and what they laid out for you seemed like a college syllabus and you got overwhelmed and decided that there was no way you could possibly measure up to whatever it was that God was apparently looking for from us…from you?

If any of that felt familiar, you’re not alone.  I’m not sure what it is in us as human beings that believes everything in life has to be hard.  I’ll admit that some things are not easy; some feel like mission impossible.  But Christianity is not one of them.  It’s really quite simple.

Jesus, the son of God, died on the cross and took on the sins of the world so that each and every one of us would have access to the gifts of full forgiveness and salvation in heaven.   John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  And in Romans 10:9 we find “That if you confess with you mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If you believe in Jesus Christ as your savior, the gifts of forgiveness and salvation are given freely; not by anything that we do or don’t do.  And that doesn’t change as time goes by.  So if you find yourself over complicating things in your walk with God, just remember that it’s your heart that He desires.  It’s really that simple.
