What’s LOVE Got to do With It?
Can you answer my question? Is love not a word, much like all other words, that is defined by words that are defined? The world says that love is the most high (hold that thought) feeling that you can feel for someone or something. They call it a descriptive word for an emotion.
I`ll bet if you ask ten different people what it is you`ll get ten different answers. And all of those answers, in some way, shape, or form, will be right for that person. If you ask a Christian about love, they will point you to what we know as “the LOVE scripture.” You know the one:
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud. It is not rude,
it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always preserves.
-1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
Have you ever looked close to what is said here? I mean look really close to what that scripture says. I mean Love is so perfect, unlike anything we see today. So why is that? Well, try this for me – everywhere I wrote love when I was talking about “the Love scripture” place God.
God is patient, God is kind.

Now do you see? It isn`t a wonder to me why we can`t seem to get love right, we all say it but we never really think it through for ourselves. “GOD is LOVE.” Have you ever found yourself saying that? I`ll bet you never thought that statement has literal meaning to it. There is a reason that we can never seem to put our finger on everything that love encompasses; there is a reason that we can never seem to grasp all of the attributes of LOVE. Do you want to know? Can I tell you?
If God made Himself small enough to be understood by man, He wouldn`t be big enough to worship. So I say to you, watch how you use that word LOVE because there really is only ONE LOVE and no one or nothing is supposed to be placed on His throne. The truth is that we don`t really know what love is; we have never really seen it. We know it, and we can feel its prescence. It is just something that is in us because we are made (by the spirit) in His image.
To say you love me is to say that you see the God in me or to bless me with a particular portion of your heart. But you can never love me with your whole heart… Where would GOD fit in? To think you love me to the extent of your entire being is not only impossible, but it is, to be quite frank, a dumb move. “Thou shalt put no other God before me” (one of ten). So who is YOUR God? Be very careful as to whom you say you love because no man is great enough to not have trials. I am but a man; I will fail you.
